Connecting care through digital innovation in New Zealand

Slade Writers / 03 Nov, 2026

Digital integration is helping reshape how healthcare teams manage medicines, share information and coordinate patient care. In Auckland, Slade Health’s partnership with Te Toka Tumai Auckland is demonstrating what this can look like in practice, connecting clinical prescribing more directly with the preparation and delivery of compounded medicines.

Slade Health has undertaken a comprehensive digital uplift of services supporting Te Toka Tumai Auckland, including improvements to electronic ordering, stock management and system integration. The program has helped create a more connected digital pathway, providing clinical and pharmacy teams with greater visibility while reducing reliance on manual processes.

A New Zealand first

At the centre of this work is Raurau Ngaehe, Te Toka Tumai’s bespoke oncology and haematology e-prescribing and administration platform, used by more than 600 clinicians across the northern region of New Zealand.

Working in partnership with Te Toka Tumai, Slade Health has successfully integrated Raurau Ngaehe with SHOT, Slade Health’s digital ordering and tracking system, marking a New Zealand first.

The integration supports the secure exchange of information between clinical prescribing and Slade Health’s compounding workflow, helping reduce manual processes and streamline the ordering of compounded treatments. This creates a more connected workflow that supports clinical safety, accuracy and operational efficiency.

From paper-based processes to connected workflows

The Raurau Ngaehe integration forms part of a broader digital transformation undertaken through the partnership between Slade Health and Te Toka Tumai Auckland.

SHOT has helped transition medicine ordering from paper-based processes to real-time digital ordering, tracking and workflow visibility. Together with Raurau Ngaehe, this creates a more connected pathway from clinician prescribing through to the preparation and delivery of compounded medicines.

By reducing manual handling and improving the flow of information between clinical and compounding systems, digital integration can help support more efficient workflows while giving healthcare teams greater visibility across the medication pathway.

Supporting smarter medicine management

The digital program also extends beyond ordering and tracking.

Slade Health’s digital systems support medicine stewardship by helping healthcare teams manage compounded medicines more effectively. SHOT’s orphan product functionality, for example, supports the appropriate reallocation of eligible compounded products if a patient’s treatment is delayed, including verification of product expiry against a rescheduled appointment.

Combined with Slade Health’s stability capabilities, this approach can help reduce avoidable medicine wastage and support more efficient use of high-cost medicines.

Innovation through partnership

The work builds on the broader partnership between Slade Health and Te Toka Tumai Auckland, which supports treatment for around 40% of New Zealand patients requiring the critical therapies supplied through the partnership.

For Slade Health, the Raurau Ngaehe integration demonstrates what can be achieved when digital technology is developed around the needs of healthcare teams and implemented collaboratively with hospital partners.

It is not simply about replacing paper with technology. It is about creating safer, more visible and more connected workflows that support clinicians, pharmacy teams and ultimately the patients relying on those services.

As healthcare becomes increasingly connected, the work in Auckland provides an example of how digital integration, advanced compounding and strong healthcare partnerships can work together to support safer, more efficient and sustainable care across New Zealand.
